I've carried a 45 auto for years now and shot quite a few. Always shot solid lead, light loads. Never had a problem with them. Most hogs go straight to the ground, and most that I've shot were big boars in places it wasn't safe to get to them with bulldogs. I will also carry a 44 mag rifle at times, and have used it some. Just make sure there is nothing behind the hog. Most of the time I use the rifle I'm unable to get real close to shoot point blank with pistol.
