If I had to choose between the two, I'd pick the 270, but I don't think there is anything wrong with a 243. I like them both. My fiance shoots a 243 and is deadly accurate with it
It was her first gun though and she's wanting to upgrade now. I'll probably end up getting her a 7mm-08, which I like better than the 270 & 243. I personally shoot a 300 Ultra Mag now when I'm not hunting with my bow.
I grew up shooting an old iron sight 30-30 top ejection that has been passed down from when my grandad had it. My grandad, my dad, both of my younger brothers, and myself all shot our first deer with it. We sanded it down last year and put a few layers of stain on it and a clear coat and it looks as good as new. My little 9 year old brother actually shot his first deer with it about 3 weeks ago. I couldn't even begin to tell you how many deer that gun has killed.
