Terry, why not take go-cart n start ur build off that frame? upgrading and relocating the engine, "possibly using a 4x4 atv eng/xmsn" if a rear mnt eng is not what u want, putting live axles under it. Iv thought building my own atv but wasnt sure what platform i wanted to start with, but once u said using a go-cart frame, i just drew up an idea in my head but im not sure using live axles or if/rs. Id have to build everything else then look at my option n placement of the axles. Iv got it in my head, i just gotta throw it on paper before i start

Man I'm a terrible mechanic and not super smart but I usually learn pretty quick by busting knuckles and trial and error.
I like your idea.
This is what BRK built so far and I'd like to go with kinda the same idea but with a tracker or samurai frame engine and drive train.
I want 4 wheel drive, room to hual my kids and room to weld  platform for dog boxes on to it all while still maintaining a small size to get around trails.
