I have mostly hunted with gritty strike dogs and now and then I would keep a bulldog or 2...but I tapped them gently on the head and kept pressure on the collar and repeated the word "break" until they turned loose...then petted them up pretty good...after a while they learn to let go without too much hassle...

Training dogs is not about quantity, it's more about timing, the right situations, and proper guidance...After that it's up to the dog...
