I find it hard to believe a dog that was bred as a hunting dog would have cropped ears in the breed standard . cropped ears have nothing to do with hunting or baying cattle .
I was curious about the same thing. Maybe it was just the look preference of the originators? I don't see CD's ears getting ripped in general enough (I know it HAS happened, just not often) for me to have figured they did it for that reason. Most common CD injuries I've seen are elsewhere than anywhere near the top of their head/ears. I guess the originators would know best.
