I use to hate em, and never really culled for it, but I didn't care for it. BUT I've got a red male pup, and have hunted with his littermates a time or two, and they're all pretty OPEN. They can be real mouthy on a track and real mouthy when it breaks, and it doesn't bother me a bit now. I'm selective with the people I hunt with, so I don't worry about them being mad about an open dog.
I will tell you outta the open cur dogs I've hunted with, you've never had to ask em to hunt, run something, or beg em to do their job. They ain't for everybody, but it sure saves me from having to look at my Garmin a bunch, so it saves me a few dollars on batteries
