Ive never cared for them in the past. My Jasper dog would open when
He was chasing deer....so that was a good indicator he was trashing. Other than that he was silent. I've had a few that open for a short distance when the hog breaks. Then I've got my Preacher pup (16 months). He's not a cur.....he's a Bluetick, he's my first real experiment with open dogs and the jury is still out. Over the years I've hunted with a few open dogs owned by other people. If I was forced to make a decision right now..... I'd say an open dog is not for me and my reasoning would be that they push hogs further than necessary. I'm not gonna argue this point....just saying that's been my experience. If your open dogs stop them quick, more power to you.
