I run redbone cur crosses. I really like my gyp. She isn't a super cold nosed dog but u don't have to have steam in them either. She is fast as all get out. Size is about the same as a YBMC. She is also rough.
On the other hand the male I have out of a completely different breeding is cold nosed. He is slow as all get out. Crazy as a crap house rat. He is smaller than my gyp. But he has as pretty of a bawl mouth as u have heard. He is not rough at all.
The last 2 reasons is why I keep him. He may not be the first to a bay but he will be there. He is always there before me and him being loose and that big bawl mouth helps find them when the rest catch.
Here is my thinking on the blood hound cross. Blood hounds are known for a great nose and could put all the nose u ever wanted in a dog. They are also known to be slow un gangly dogs. Just kinda clumsy. This is a trait I don't like in a hog dog. While adding nose to a cur that is the only thing I see it brings to the table.
With that being said its ur dogs ur Buisiness. Do as u will. U are the one that matters cause u will either be the one to feed or cull them.
