I live it Hutto.  Just East of Round Rock, northeast of austin.

Depending on where you're going to work in Austin will really tell you where to live. I myself take the toll road 38 miles to work in south Austin.

As others mentioned the nicer areas around Austin are Round Rock, Pflugerville, and Georgetown.  I say Hutto too, but to far away for some.  Those three cities are going to have higher home values but the chance of finding a house with any acreage is a little more slim. It's 90+ percent subdivisions.

There are homes for sale for sure just easier to find something with room for dogs in smaller towns like Hutto (north), Eligin (east), Manor (east), Dripping Springs (south), Buda or Kyle (south), Cedar Park (north). Tons of places.

Do you know where your job is.  Will help narrow down depending on your driving preferences.

I'm brand new to this, just took my Dogo out for second time in the pen this last week.  But I'm looking for people to hunt with so give me a shout when you get into town.

thanks for all the living advice.....job will be based smack dab in the center of Austin. I definitely need room for my dogs so those smaller towns are probably what im going to be looking for. congrats on getting started. I will be happy to go hunting with you.
