Get in close before you send the catchdog, go right behind him and they won't have time to chew up a hog. It's not their fault you're taking too long getting to a caught hog. The best way to break bad habits is to not let them get started in the first place.

I agree with you on all counts here.  I turn loose between 75 and 50 yards away.  between the green briars and mud sometimes it still takes 5 minutes or more to get to the hog.
