speed is important...and a hound that takes a cold track and grinds it out and jumps the hog an hour or 2 later is not a dog I will keep...too many hogs around to keep a dog like that...one that finds a hog pretty quick and moves the track fast I like...open is fine with me...seems like the best dogs I ever owned were somewhat open anyways..

I agree Reuben, one of the best I had was a Kemmer gyp that was more open than any hound I hunted with, but she could move a track and bayed me a lot of hogs. Most of mine nowadays are silent, went the other night with a fellow that had 2 young blueticks. They were chasing Bambi's mom and REALLY open. Kept pulling my dogs, with them as they are not use to it. I sent them a couple electronic messages and fixed my end of it. The other boy couldn't text his and we waited on them. He felt bad but wanted to go with me. We all have to start somewhere and you can't bay em if you don't take em.
