I don't know for sure what cutting him would do; I recently had a really nice pit that was cut when he was young- to keep aggression out.  It worked- he never in the two years I had him started a fight or growled at a dog in the box with him.  He was a "gentle giant".  He also had more hunt that I've ever seen in a pit.  Even though he was cut, he had a lot of hunt in him.  He wasn't built for running, but he would run on the ground by himself and find/catch his own hog.  So, you wont know until you try it if the hunt or fight will stay or go.
