I'm probably in the minority but I don't worry to much about coming on command at young ages.  As long as the pup is well socialized (not wild) and I can catch him I just hit the woods with them.   I've started several that wouldn't come on command at all but I knew I could catch them after the hunt and with a few months of hard hunting and them getting wore out hunting they start coming right to you at the end of the hunt and then you can build on that with commands.   Tired and worn out dogs learn things very quick if they have any sense at all.   But if you want to get the pup coming right now the long-line would be my best bet also.  Good luck with the pup.
