The lick systems seem to be very dependable with tons of folks having used them successfully.  However.......they have and do fail to operate sometimes. Just plain simple mechanical failure.

Not running them down ......just giving my experience.

Nearly killed a whole kennel with them one summer. On days that a dog cannot go without larger allottments of water .......I feel they are dangerous.

There are no visible signs that they do not work unless you catch the dog frantically attempting to access water from them.  If it doesn't work properly .....the dog will cease attempting to drink from it...especially if it is newly introduced systems.

I will personally never own the system again due to the experience I had with it and the near cost of zipping my entire kennel.

A visible watter source that can be monitored by the naked eye is invaluable.
