Strike dog to me is a dog that will go find and jump/run/bay a hog. Meaning you can stand in one spot and the dog will go find a hog.

I personally don't think it is completely necessary to have a dog that will do that if your style of hunting is to walk the dogs. I have a couple dogs if I walk them into fresh hog sign they will go from there and find a hog, but I wouldn't classify them as strike dogs.
