I agree with everbody else. Everytime i hear a man say he's my strike dog" or something similar that man is referring to his number one dog. The dog that he counts on the most. And is really confident that if theres hogs to be found the "strike dog " is going to find them. I have also heard that term reffered to in the coon hunting world. Especially competition hunts. For example alot of times when a man wants to sell a competition dog he MIGHT say this is a 1st strike 2nd tree dog. Or 2nd strike 1st tree dog and so on. 1st strike meaning he usually opens up on track before the rest of the pack. Therefore he gets the most strike points. Dog that strikes first gets more points than 2nd 3rd 4th and so on. Same goes with the tree. If i call my dog treed before your dog gets treed i get more points than you. But i believe the term is used in 2 different ways when comparing hog hunting and coon hunting. At least here in Georgia it is. I have been wrong before though.
