This term is just like finished dog or jam up or what ever else you want to call em. I just go with hog dog but I do use the term it's just the caliber of the dog very from person to person the term is miss leading. I told my buddy few days ago the spot that your hunting will determine how good the dog is. Few pigs the better the dog has to be the more hog you have will give a lesser dog a chance to strike over the better dog just becuz a dog has a better nose don't mean he will strike or start the track first to many thing come in to play. I have seen good dogs go thru a area and not get on any then 30 min later drop a differnt dog and him pick up and strike a hog if you take a dog to a place where there are hogs but not over ran and the dog strikes hogs on a regular basis then that is the term strike dog
