Briar,,, Ive heard people do that before,, they say it works.  But to what extent I cant say.  I can tell you that I have 5 dogs as of right now and a man don't realize how much crap they dish out until you start spraying it into a barrel.. ..  But as it sits in the barrel with water, its easy to breakdown into liquid with the water hose and a high pressure nossel..
