14 months is still a pretty young dog. For hounds I would always find a deer, let them out and let them find it themselves, rather than casting them to a deer and use the e collar on them. They figure it out pretty quick. As for my catahoulas, they've been more sensitive to the e collar so I am careful how I use it with them. Almost takes the hunt out of them for awhile.

So that is an option to try an e collar, or just keep puttin him in hog sign and as he matures he will figure out exactly what critter your after. If he's only takin them to 400 as a young dog, I wouldn't be too worried. It's when he gets older and starts takin them farther is when I'd be worried.
