A nose dog is fine on big hogs, but with big hogs usually come big teeth, and they always seem to get a tooth through the chin or roof of the mouth. It bleeds bad and there's no real way to protect em. I have a nose dog I'm replacing now, last boar hog he got cut in that spot and he like to have bled down.
On small hogs, a hard bite will break the snout or break a leg and ruins future barrs for me. Game bred dogs seem to like the nose and legs a lot in my experience, just genetics I reckon.
