We can't be sure that Texas HB 2562, the bill regulating ALL "outdoor
unattended" dogs (not only tethered dogs) is dead until the Texas
legislators leave the Capitol and return home June 1st! Rules can be
suspended to enable legislators to do most anything they wish at the last
minute and bills can be "attached" to similar bills still in the pipeline.
Daily activities must be monitored closely. But our success to date is the
result of a coalition of local, state and national animal organizations
working together to preserve our historic relationship with animals. The
U.S. Sportsmen's Alliance played a major role in our success to date and we
look forward to working together in the future.
We all know the "vegan, anti-hunting, anti-pet ownership vigilantes" will be
back next session, but we'll be ready for them!

Texas Sportsmen Defeat Dog Bill
Posted on May 18, 2015
Texas legislation proposing onerous new requirements on dogs left outdoors
failed to meet a House deadline to receive floor action by midnight
Thursday, May 14 and is now dead.

The legislation, House Bill 2562, sparked intense opposition from sportsmen
and dog owners across Texas.
"Texas sportsmen and dog owners did a great job of rallying opposition to
derail this legislation before it could be snuck through by the animal
rights lobby," said Adam Wright, USSA associate director of state services.
"While this is a great victory, it is important to continue to remain
vigilant and ensure that this proposal isn't added on to another bill as an
amendment at the last minute." The Texas legislature will adjourn for the
session on June 1.
