I love chains. But i dont have enough shade in my new house for them. So i poured a slab. Before i moved to texas i had fogs on chains and i had dogs in kennels but the kennels were on a  raised wooden platform.

I will take chains over anything
I like wooden platform over concrete
Concrete is easy to keep clean but can be hard on dogs.
Raised platform was clean. Cooler in summer and keeps bugs down.  Only problem i had with wooden floor was dog nails had to be constantly trimmed.

Its hard on the dogs because it causes sores on their legs? or just on their joints because it doesnt give? I have some dogs on chains but its steep and rocky were I live and the dogs cause a lot of erosion, if it was flat here Id do more chains. I would be worried they would chew the heck out of wood
