I've always used wood dog houses, but my base is from that Trex stuff sitting right on the concrete. I scoop the crap every day and just wash the concrete every few days. It gets pretty cold up here so I like wood over the plastic barrels. It would be easier to wash down if they were up but I just have never done it.
