I claim to have one "hog dog" at the present time. She is 12 years old and as Toby Keith would say " she aint as good as she once was, but she is as good once as she ever was". She is slower than she was and slower than most, but she will still get the job done. I don't count every hog I catch and what I can say is that I caught less hog last year than in years past. I would estimate that in the past 12 years that I have hunted her, she has probably found and bayed about 250-300 hogs by herself and she has probably been on another 250-300 with other dogs. She has been cut in every place imaginable, punctured lungs, broke ribs..you name it. I call her a hog dog. She will take a hot track quick and she will grind out a medium track. Ive never walk hunted, but no doubt she will hunt anyway a dog can be hunted. She rides the rig rack and does everything well, best way to hunt her is to turn her loose.
So, back to the original question, in most years past I can estimate that I catch about 30-50 hogs per year. Ocassionaly I'll have a day where I catch more than one per hunt. Okay, so all my jabbering is to say, I can talk dogs, I can estimate hog counts, I can type just about anything from behind this screen.
What I really care about is having fun while I am hog hunting. I like being in the woods with good guys and my sons. I like getting my dogs on the ground and I always hope that I go home with all my dogs safely and hopefully I don't break or lose equipment. I don't really even care for pork; unless it is a nice barr hog, it stays in the woods (for the most part).
I know this is a public forum and people can say what they want, but I post a lot less these days because of all the bickering. If I read something I don't agree with, I just don't reply. I am on three sites, this being one of them. I read this one this most because there are a lot of posts but I enjoy the other two more than this because the hunters respect each other. I learn more from the other two sites, but this one is more entertaining....kind of reminds me of my 6 and 8 yr old fighting.
I really don't care how many hogs other people catch or I don't care what kind of dogs they feed. To each their own. I let three nice grown dogs go last year and I packed back up on pups, just to try to get better dogs. I think if most people focused on what they are doing and not what everyone else was or wasn't doing, some of yall may sleep better at night.
Oh by the way, if anyone wants to come hunt with me sometime, just let me know. I just like to hunt!
