I hunt very little nowadays...not by choice but that is how it is...my ramblings are more from past experience and with the dogs I had bred for 5 and 7 generations and more...so having said that...

I will never shock a pup in the woods on account I do not want them to associate the shock to ranging as being the bad thing they did...I want my pups to range out...I make sure they know it is acceptable to run hogs in the woods before I even think about shocking them off of trash...I try to break them off of cows at my brothers house as pups and off of deer in my back yard but only after they have been worked in the bay pen...I do not want them to associate baying as the bad thing...back before 4 wheelers and telemetry we walked and ran as much as possible to keep the dogs in hearing distance...I remember doing lots of searching...lost my voice for a while from hollering for my dogs...truck horn blowing...cow horn blowing...modern technology is nice...

what is the most important thing for me is to do all I can to bring out the best from my dogs...to bring out the very best in them is my #1 priority otherwise they will pick up bad habits...good dogs with proper handling makes for better dogs...

Walking is for the younger guys...I will do it if need be but I will ride as close as I can until traveling on foot is faster...

Training dogs is not about quantity, it's more about timing, the right situations, and proper guidance...After that it's up to the dog...
A hunting dog is born not made...
