There are big dogs that handle the heat like smaller dogs. A lot depends on the breed and bloodlines. I also hunt by myself sometimes. I have a 75lb or so dog that can handle just about any hog by himself. I use a catchdog or .40 cal as back up. He has bird/bull in his breeding. It doesn't take a lot to get a good nose. Usually the more bird dog, the more bay u get.

 To the original poster, are u in Texas ?

Question for you Buddylee as I know you hunt these crosses and have for a long time. Do you get as good of dogs when you keep breeding the cross bred dogs to each other or do you prefer the first generation crosses?

You may have heard of Campbell and outlaw cur's both are said to be heavy in bird and bull blood .

I have always been super interested in the Campbell curs and have seen a lot of pics of them but never seen one go. But the outlaw curs I have not heard much about., but I would be interested to learn more about them.
