i will agree with shotgun, i had one tangle me up in his chain during at feeding time and then pulled me on top of him, breaking his femur. the vet said the same, 8wks confinement, 8wks minimal movement, 8wks and light exercise and then slowly work him back into full exercise. mine had to be pinned and wired too, and even after 6 months, he still wasn't 80%, didn't want to put weight on it much, but when he would run, its like he was using the leg like a spring board, and launching himself off that particular leg. i could see a very noticeable difference in his speed and movement once he learned to spring off the leg.
