cajun,
how are those rivets holding up? a while back, not even sure if it was an in person discussion while hunting or on here, but i had made a comment of building boxes out something similar and riveting it together and someone started crap talking saying rivets wouldn't hold up and they would break and pop out and all sorts of garbage. he said the reason for the breakage was due to the vibrations the boxes would endure. i explained to him that aircraft are held together with rivets and he said bull crap, they would fall apart. i guess arguing with someone who has no knowledge of aviation is senseless, which i why i just left it at that and didn't say anything back.
but since you used I'm sure regular ole' home depot style pop rivets, how is it holding up and have you had to replace a bunch?
the only thing i will agree with the a-hole who said rivets wouldn't hold up, is this. i put a steel floor in my boat and used regular ole' aluminum rivets from i think tractor supply. took the boat out for a test spin and at full throttle hitting the waves, the cheap rivets DID pop out, nearly 80% of them. i went to my unit i was in at the time, got some aviation grade stainless cherries (high grade pop rivets) and the pneumatic puller gun and didn't have a single 1 pop out. granted they were 2x the size of the cheap rivets i put in, but either way, they seemed to hold with no issues. i guess if i hadn't put pro-seal down where the steel touched the aluminum for chafing and vibration absorption and the steel hadn't bonded to the sealant, the flooring might have did a lil bouncing and popped ALL the cheap rivets.
