I try to never call my dogs back, but, when I absolutely have to I do use a horn I carved myself. I blow it around the house once a week or so mostly just to annoy my neighbors. 

When I do use it in the woods it works about the same as screaming and hollerin, not super well. They do understand what I want. How quickly they return depends on the situation
