well back in the day before i had a stike dog to train off of,,,    i used the same methods i saw as a kid growing up with coon dogs..

i would take a shoat and drag it thru the feild leaving a good sent trail,,    then tie him or put in a small cage  make shure they cant see it when you turn them loose..

then go back to the house and get the dogs,,  start them back off of the sent and walk them to it..  letting them find it on their own..

just keep adding distance and making it more difficult as time goes on..

someone may have a better method but this worked for me when i was starting out.
