I dont know of anything over the counter that would actually work.
When I have to do mine. I have injectable lidocaine (rx) but i have powdered lidocaine you can buy otc. I mix it with straight tap water and spray a liberal amount. It helps a ton if they are numbed up good.
But, I work on my dogs as pups to be able to work on them. I dont have to use anything stitiching or sewing but the numbing agent. I use rompum if I need to do other stuff like pull broken teeth.
