I think you're doing the right thing by keeping him in the house for now. He'll be so much more manageable down the road because of it. I started off crating mine for a few months when I first got her. After she was house broke, she moved to being an outside dog during the day and coming in when I get home from work. She sleeps free in the house and doesn't cause any havoc at night. I think because she gets so much human interaction and expends her energy messing with my wife's dogs that she isn't such a terror. Jags can start on any game early, but if you don't get the discipline down first he'll just be a hard to handle no listening nut job in the field. Some jagd guys like that though.
