Any
breed
of hog dog should be able to be both family pet/ companion and hog dog. Some people have different opinions of how handling a dog as a pet can effect the dogs hunting performance. I would argue that it depends on the dog. I have dogs that are both pets and hunting dogs, and I have dogs that are only hunting dogs.
