yeah, sounds like your heading in the right direction!

i too had a lot of gritty dogs that always tried to catch. i spent more time playing doctor and nurse then i did hunting.

So, question is......is a gritty dog worth it if you can't hunt him for 3 weeks while he's healing up??

No to mention the headache that comes with it....getting off work and coming home to injured dogs that you have to take care of. not fun...

I have trained my dogs to stop and bay a hog, but they won't try to catch until my pitt gets there. every now and then, they'll jump on a small one, but not too much.

just a few bites to the back legs and azzzzz is all you need to stop a running hog!
