My preference is Blackmouth Cur for strike and Blackmouth Cur for catch. If you work with them like I do, you have dogs that will keep a bay and unlike some of the hound folks, I don't like to run all night. I hunt hogs to catch hogs not to find them. We got so many hogs where I hunt that you don't need a rangy dog, you just need a dog that will stay with one and not bark him out of the woods. Just deppends on the land you have to hunt. As for as a catch dog, I like Blackmouth Curs. You don't need a big bad ass dog to catch a big hog,,,,,,,,you just need a smart one. I used to have pits and they are by far the best dogs for holding a hog but you first have to get him there and then you got to get there before he gets killed. A cur dog catches on the ear and rolls with the hog until another gets the other ear. They don't set back like pits, so they don't get cut up as bad. Just my way of hunting my land guys, don't get mad,,,it is just a preference and an opinion. The places where I hunt also have some bad hogs and you don't want nothing catching until you get there or you won't have any dogs before the hunt is over. I learned the hard way.
