i use chains in the back of my truck right now, i am gonna go to a box on a trailer for winter time, but i do like the convience of the chains, can already have em suited up, collared up and ready to go when we get to a  place, plus like someone else said it makes it a lot easier to see what the dogs are doing. keep the chains tight and they shouldnt be able to jump out. and ALWAYS stay close to your truck.
