Hey Clay if I keep putting Scott in front of hogs by the end of grain season I'll have me something. Here is the story Sat night I ask my son what dogs he wanted to take he said Scar ,Penny a real pain in the butt and his pup Blaze.Went to the ranch I wanted to hunt where we have phone service and close just in case something happened we are still not sure if he Dawson is allergic to poison ivy or bee or wasp stings.Anyway we meet Belle and Scott around 7am said our good mornings we got to turn out pretty early because we are not sure our dogs will find any hogs if they can't see them leaving the field.Scott brought Sandy Scars mother ,Popeye ,Chester catch dogs Chico,Cager. We headed out dogs all left hunting I guess who really knows for about a hour then we hunt this one ranch that have mini burros about 10 of them.So we all thought it would be best if we catch and find and track to see where the dogs were before we entered this place. We drove around found dogs tied most of them this is where the Penny gyp really ticks me off she went bye us pulling Dawsons pup right bye the burros I don't hunt her much because once you turn her loose she doesn't want to be caught until shes done hunting.Scott hunts her for me because I want to cull her I very rarely hunt her but she is a yard favorite to my family and Scott likes her as well.We get that straightened out and rode about 15 minutes in that pasture and Penny opened then the pup and then Scott opened all the harassment about that gyp then the other dogs joined in we got up there we sent Belles dog Chico to finish the deal and thats when the pixs took place. On the way out the neighbor thats a retreiver trainer and avid hunter told us a story about him sitting in a tree stand watching some hogs one day and his exact words then a volkswagon walks out he says about 9 months ago he sees a boar he says goes 3 or better.Scott and I just look at each other we have had dogs killed cut down for about a year on this place. The dogs had pulled out. We went two more ranches over and they started another hog we use Sandy just in case the other dogs need some help since she is mainly used for a hood dog and brood gyp we don't put her on the ground much she winds off the 4 wheeler . The dogs are baying kind of funny real soft the the hog broke we heared a couple of dogs getting tuned on so Scott releases Cager the hog never stopped he ran so Cager never got a shot at him the hog ran with Cager and the all dogs after him they went to a bad thicket we started tracking they were about 1/4 mile from us coming back our way we saw Cager and got him. The dogs were getting hot the pup came back so we thought we were going to take a chance and try to see this hog so we put Sandy a fresh fat dog on the ground but she's better fat than anything else we got on the ground she left got in on the race the dogs ran for about a 1hr before we put her down. Then of course hog hunters favorite dead silence except for catch dogs panting so we track the dogs track up over a hill we go there hear one dog Sandy hog breaks again this time he going to aunt bettys house I mean he left that thicket all the way across about a 11/2 or so past where we started out hunting in the am it was around 2pm now as we were going dogs had fell out of the race we started tying them off around a creek and still going to Sandy we tracked and thought she might have cross the county road so we split up I was going to get the truck and try to head them off when Scott called and said he had her about 1/2 mile further in there we were glad we got her back but not glad we still haven't got that hog. So we check the other dogs looked at busted pads and a couple of pokes and called it a day we still don't know if that was that hog thats 3 or better.Til next time!
