If someone has an effective method to make a catchdog not make a sound while hunting I bet you could quite your job and start a new business.  I have had some quiet and some not, the ones that were not were not going to change their mind about it.  When the switch flips and it was game time it is very hard to get their attention and make them learn that you would like for them to be quiet.  I am not saying it can't be done but it is very hard to do.  If I had a noisy dog I liked in every other way and I could pay $150-$200 to make them quiet as a mouse I would do it pretty quick.  I think the biggest deterent for me would be cost since the surgery would likely cost more than a different dog.

it's no different than makin a lab quiet on his platform or in his box while he's watchin birds hit the water or field in front of him.  it can be done, it's how much time you want to spend on your dog just like anything else.  it's not an involuntary response like a nervous tick or something.  the whining is no different than a catchdog pullin hard on the end of a lead when gettin led to a bay, just a different problem you're addressing.  whining or pullin on a lead, it all comes down to manners/handle.
