Some of the genetics books are pretty good, but most are just recycled trash, but there are two books I would recomend. The Walk with Wick books by John Wick (Volumes 1 and 2). He is a coon hunter, owned a dog supply company for several years and has bred and trained coon dogs for over 40 years.
Mad scientist is probably right, cause it will make you go crazy.
