Deputy Dawg and Cannon were loaded and waiting on me this morning. I dropped Slayde, my youngest boy, off at football practice and was down at their house by 6:40. It was in the sixties, which isn’t cold, but it sure is better than melting. This place we hunted has some RUNNING SON OF A GUNS in it. Ava bayed first but it wasn’t long before everybody was there. They were fanned out and combing the woods. Wasn’t long and the hogs scattered. The dogs stretched a shoat and relayed. I thought those briars and cactus were gonna tear my clothes off crawling in there. They finally bayed again and the hog was up and gone after about 1 minute or less of baying. She made a pretty good run but they finally put her up in a pond. Deputy Dawg sent the catch dog and he ran right down the edge of the water but didn’t see her and cut up the bank to the other dogs. About that time the sow, about 200+, got up and ran at Ava. The other dogs must have decided they were coming in to save her because she turned and went up the bank to meet them. We sank her right there. They relayed again but never put anything else up and we called it a hunt.

Sounds like my neck of the woods. That young man is riding them Podner. He is sure going to hate it when he has to go to school instead of going hunting with PawPaw.

Cajun, he’s two with hogs and hog dogs on the brain. He came over the other day and as soon as he got through the door he started yelling “uncle, go catch a pig”, probably said 3 times before he got down the hallway. I said whatcha doing boy? He said “Uncle let’s go look at dogs”. Heck yeah come on.

That kid knows how to make his dad proud. Uncle too. It's cooling down around here to. Only 1 day forecast above 70 in the next 10. We are in the High Desert in Oregon for a few days and it's supposed to be down near freezing a couple mornings.

Dang it isn’t that much cooler here. I don’t need freezing but would take 50’s -60’s in a heartbeat.
