over the last few weeks, in brazoria county, there have been several reports of dog buying scams.
a person will place their dog for sale on pet finders. com. they will be contacted by e-mail by some one wishing to purchase the dog.
the person will send the seller a cashiers check for $2020.00 more than the asking price of the dog.
when the seller e-mails the buyer, they are told to send a money order to an out of state western union terminal. the seller is told it is the shipping company, who is handling the shipping of the dog.
the seller complies and sends the $2000.00 to the out of state terminal.
a few days later the seller is notified by their bank the cashiers check is counterfeit and they want their money.
so the seller is out $2020.00 and did not sell the dog.
