we hunt because we have been brought up right . my whole family hunts . we love it , and we love the animals . if thier was no hunting at all for 1 year thier would be more sick and inbreed animals , and a huge over population of animals . every one of are families has depended on hunting to survie at some point . they didn't always have grocerie stores . my family and i love our dogs , and love to watch them work . its what they were breed for , and trained for . they are apart of our family . besides freshly harvested wild game puts store bought number 2 to shame !

First off she is your Mom, so don't argue, that is never ever a way get your point through to someone, much less your Mother. My mother, believe it or not is was against hunting hogs with the dogs. Before Thomas and I were married I had moved back home for six months, with my dogs. She was absolutely horrified that I would come in with tired, sometimes injured (but content) dogs. This women trained and showed dogs most of her adult life and taught other folks to work their dogs. So she understood the aspect of a "working dog" but not totally, and definitely not killing animals that weren't going in the freezer, she would not eat the meat I caught either. Trying to argue the point was mute, and only caused more strife in my relationship with my Mother, and I was grown person.
through my persistance, She soon saw for herself the the dogs desire to load up and go, and calm and content they were after a hunt, in other words "Happy dogs" that you can't get from a dog that is exercised and worked for several hours on a trial field or an obedience ring. She saw for herself how much pride I took in my animals and the care I took of them, most importantly the relationship I had with my dogs spoke for itself. Dedication and responsibilty will speak much louder than words most times.
I would also bring up conversations with facts and statistics about the damage that hogs cost, the billions of dollars every year that are done to the livelyhood of farmers, ranchers, and our Forrest and the depravation that hogs do to native wildlife species of animals and ground nesting birds. Hogs are not consider wildlife and they are not native. They will never be extinct, not if you hunted them every day. Wildlife Biologist have proof that you will have to get rid of 70% of the hogs in an area every year just to maintain the population, from taking over. People that are hunting- in the woods are outside getting exercise, fresh air and a true appreciation for the outdoors, not reading about it and looking at pictures about it. Youth that are in the woods are not in front of a video game, a TV or a computer, letting life pass them by. They are not in a gangs, on drugs in the streets, or stealing cars and in jail. But rather building character and memories that will last a lifetime and hopefully influence them to be a better steward of the land and wildlife for the next generation, and know what is omportant to pass on to their own children.

the main reason is because i love to watch a dog work but second all of the land owners i hunt for i can not leave a hog walking on their land if i catch it so eradication comes into play

For allot of reasons. While I dont hunt for erradication I do hunt for population control and Row Crop protection. Erradication is simply not possible. That is the main reason why my dad got started and why we do it day in and day out and why we make hunts in bad weather or heat.
Other reasons are 1. to put food on the table. 2. I love to watch and hunt and work with Cur dogs. 3. I like the adventure aspect you never know what you will end up doing or seeing that day. 4. Good exercise for heath reasons. 5. When done the right way with good people it builds Character expecially in young people but also anybody...teamwork, responsibilty, self confidence, self reliance, pride, loyalty, how to deal with loss, perserverance, problem solving, I could go on and on. 6. Comradery....I have made lots of friends through hog hunting and strengthened relationships that I allready had. Nothing makes a hunt better than spending it with people who you enjoy the company of. 7. Conservation....Not always thought about but is expecially true when considering large populations of hogs...they can really damage the local ecosystem, eating quail and turkey eggs, competing with other wildlife for food, among other things. Keeping the population thinned is good the the native wildlife and the Farmers. 8. Culture......Every culture has the right to be preserved. I feel like hunting hogs with dogs is a cultural thing its been passed down to me from the previous generation and even the dogs I hunt with have been passed down from generation to generation.
Any one of those reasons is reason enough for me to hunt hogs but put them together well I guess thats why I like it so much.

My mother isn't against my hunting, but when I was younger she would always nag about me never being home, coming in late. I asked her if she'd rather me be out at parties getting messed up every night. Never heard another word out of her.
But anyways, I hunt just for the love of it, the adrenaline rush, and watching a good dog working.
