Dog eating tails

I went out yesterday evening for some field hunts, and as we came home to unload everything I had one of my catchdogs deceased in the box.  We caught no hogs and never even let out the catchdogs, but we have been catching alot of hogs lately.  This dog that deceased always looks forward to eating the tail off of the pigs that we kill, so I let him as a reward.   Just wondering if maybe he had a problem digesting the tails.
