Monday night hunt

My buddies and I were able to get a hunt at my ranch Monday night. Pete, James and myself. Pete brought 4 baydogs, James brought 3 catchdogs, and being I'm still a little new to the game I just have my one baydog. Well we started off and it was a slow hunt. A front blew in and we had 30mph winds along with it being in the mid 30's.
Rowdy one of Petes best dogs went down into a big draw and got a heck of a hog moving out of there. We heard the cedar crackin and looked up infront of the truck and that big ol boar ran about 25 yards infront of us with Rowdy about 5 ft behind him and the other dogs in close persuit also. We all looked at each other and started unloading the catch dogs. We got the catch dogs unloaded and finally got them ready and we heard the bay. So we all headed that way and James not hunting that area of my ranch with us before sook off with his pit Jake down the hill and straight down the creek. (which is almost straight down and alot of big rocks to bounce off of) He finally stoped once he slid into the creek and waited for us to get to him and we took off down the creek with the catch dogs, and then the boar broke and the he must of turned on his afterburners. One baydog yella dog came back within five minutes of the hog breaking, then the others started coming back in after about 30 or so minutes. Normally the dogs wont come back, but I'm guessing the wind played a big part in this and the dogs couldent keep up with him.
So we got all of the dogs back and loaded them in the truck and headed back to the back part of the ranch were we have caught at least one hog on every hunt we've done. We got out of the canyons and back ontop and let the dogs out and were following them, not ten minutes after the dogs were out they all shot off to the left and had a bay going. We got the catch dogs back out and headed that way. We got around 100 yds from the bay and the pig started squeelin and we let 2 of the catch dogs go Jake and Tiger. We held the new catch dog that we had just got the day before and walked him in to about 50 yards and let him go. All three of the catch dogs hit the hog hard and we got there and pulled the dogs off. It was a little boar about 100 lbs and was really good training for the baydogs.
So all and all it was a good night with the high winds we were still able to get one hog out of the night.
Hopefully next time we'll get that big boar and he wont slip away.
