Hello everyone, I am new to the forum and to the idea of hog doggin. I am looking for any tips anyone may have. I have been doin alot of research on breeds of dogs laws and regulations regarding hog doggin. I have found the sort of dogs i think i am interested in unless anyone has any input I am looking at the possibility of getting 3 catahoula bulldogs and 1 american bandogge. I plan on maybe trying to get started training in maybe the next year and in the meantime need all the info possible. Thanks in advance for your responses.

Make sure you have places to hunt with permission, remember dogs know no boundry so make sure you have a large enough tract of land to hunt on. However if you have not been, i would go hunt with others first and make sure it is for you. There is alot to know, Read, Listen and Learn.

If at all possible hunt behind any dogs [or parents of pups] that you buy. If it is not possible any good hog dogger selling pups will have pictures or video of the dogs on hunts. Also try to find someone to tag along on hog hunts with this will help you be sure you have everything you need. And the last bit of advice I would have to say is... keep a open mind and dont let people change your mind if you find something works for you. You will read alot about how some hunt with Xnumber of dogs and others with Ynumber of dogs or some will swear by certain types [bay dogs. running catch dogs. catch dogs.] and the way they hunt them. Do what works with the size of land, terrain, amount of hogs in your woods, and how many dogs you plan to feed. Welcome.

Get yourself a tracking unit like a quicktrack, wildlife materials. It doesn't have to be gps even though they are nice. There are lots of them for sale used now

it does not have to be expensive to hunt hogs i have been hog hunting for 10 years and never had a tracking unit or ever bought a dog if you know people who hunt hogs they will usually give you a puppy just to see how it turns out but that is only my experience i do not know where you hunt down here in florida you can catch hogs all night with just a Qbeam and a good bulldog. on second thought there are hundreads of times i wished I had a tracking collar and them vets will rape you. My advice start off with one dog that you can spend alot of time with and try to build a pack around that dog. If you start out with a jam up finished dog you may bite off more than you can chew, if you get on a 300# bad hog that is wrecking your new $1000 dog and he hase no back up, kills your dog you may not like hog hunting anymore. If you get a free dog that shows interest as a pup get smoked a few times then catch a sholt, then maby a few smaller hogs then move on up ,what I am saying is you and your dog advance together. That free wormy dog may be the one you tell your grandkids about.

Actually don't know anyone that does it. Here where i live in al people hog hunt but not with dogs bama outlawed it i think. but i am moving to ga in the near future for my job but i am not sure how many hogs i can come across in north ga. do you know by chance i know there alot in south ga. But i will have to take your advice on that free wormy dog i do have one hell of a catahoula already that has a great since of game and prey drive and seems to have alot of grit but don't know if its enough. and i don't figure they would make very good catch dogs. I did have a american bulldog pit mix till recently some one had to have stole him but you know how that goes.

yeah I was just up in the mountains of north carolina and i think that is a whole diffrent game than around here they say there are alot of hogs up that way but i have never seen any or even rootin but the ones ive seen pictures of looked pretty bad. I was talking to some boys in a hunting store up that way they said they run blackmouths and plotts and jump more bears than hogs. It would be a challenge chasing a hog up and down them mountains but them boys do it.
