Sabine National Forest
5050 Hwy 21 East
Hemphill, TX 75948
409-625-1940
Toll Free 866-235-1750

there ya go.  the general rules are vague at best on the usfs website.  call that ranger station and they should be able to let you know the specifics and whether or not hog doggin is allowed at this particular forest.

 You can also contact the game warden in that area and they should be able to tell you if it is legal to run dogs in that piticular area. I talked to the shnf and they said the tx parks and wildlife stoped the hog doggin in the shnf b/c it wasn't helping cut down on the hog population. I contacted my state rep, senetor and congressman and they all siad they would look into it and see what can be done, but the txpwd have the final say so on hunting laws.

I drive by an office every weekday. I plan to drop in tomorrow and ask.

I stopped by and they gave me the book you get when you pay the $48 for the permit. So if you stop by they may not give you one. But it is online. http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/huntwild/hunt/public/lands/table_contents/ In the rules it says dogs are not allowed unless that park allows them. I only found one that allowed them Feb. 1-21. Some parks say all legal methods. You would have to contact the local game warden and ask. It seems like an easy way to get in trouble if you mess up. ATV use is restricted too. But if you live near the area it may be worth your time to find out.

it depends on who you ask.  you're gonna hear a lot of different answers when you call different offices.

In the front of the book it says "In addition to the other applicable statutes or regulations, a person on Public Hunting Lands commits an offense if that person:"
"Dogs
 uses a dog to hunt deer, turkey, or exotic mammals (including
feral hogs) except as provided for hunting feral hogs on the
certain public hunting areas (see Legal Game box on the unit
maps for seasons, bag limits and restrictions);

 uses a dog to hunt furbearers or predatory animals during
daylight hours within an open general season for deer on
public hunting lands;
 fails to keep all dogs in designated campsites confined or
leashed;"

That is why I said if you see a park that says by any legal means call the local game warden and ask. Be sure to right down the date, time, and who you spoke to just in case.
