I recently bought some high dollar dogs with a supposed guarantee.  Well, when they turned out to be culls at best, the fella won't keep his word.  The only problem I have is it's an 8 hour drive one way to visit in person.  Looks like I may have to cancel a hunt for a road trip.  Anyone else experienced this before?

Happens all the time.. Hunt with the dog before buying is the best way to keep it from happening.

Yea it happened to one of my buddys a couple years ago. He tried to call the feller back and his number said no longer in service. I just hope my buddy never runs across this feller again.

I personally have never seen a good dog sold until somebody is getting out of hog doggin' all together. Always hunt behind the dog. However, I have so many people who just want a free hunt every time I sell a dog. Some of them will try and hunt behind you too. So I don't let people hunt with me to see a dog work. If they want to see, they better have land to hunt. Otherwise, sorry about their luck. Even then, I don't just go hunting until I feel the person is truely serious about the buy.  I rely on my rep to sell most of the dogs by word of mouth. I shoot people straight. If a dog has or does something I dissagree with, I'll let the person know. Dogs always hunt different without their original owner. 9 times out of 10, a guy who we refer to as a "marshmellow", will not be able to get a dog to work reguardless how good the do is or was. Some dogs need a firm voice and helping hand to push their performance to the next level. My buddies and I make decent money, so we don't sell dogs as a business like some people we know. We don't lie about a dogs charter. Yes, we have sold culls, but we ask for a reasonable price and shoot people straight. Besides, one mans cull is another mans treasure. A lot of dogs we've gotton over the years, were nothing more than culls who needed a different owner. Good luck with the dogs and preivous owner. Hope you get your money back.

I know I traded a puppy and got a really good dog. She may not be the best but I would not give her up. There are some people out there that are not so good but there are some good people out there too. But I would never pay top dollar unless I had seen it hunt and was totally in love. Who am I kidding? I am cheap. I will take a young dog and take my chances. Out of three dogs two hunt. They are all about a year so I will give the other about a year and then just give him to my wife.

Where is the guy out of that sold you the culls? I bought 2 pups from a guy in ok and they were the same thing CULLS, i got a call from a guy who bought some pups out of the same litter and he said his dogs are junk also. I basicly threw 700 out the window as i drove to meet the guy at his house. if it werent illeagal i would go steal the mans horses and use them as payback.

Yea' you got to be careful on what you purchase and what they tell you.
I normally buy dogs from people that I know who hunt hogs all the time
and not from the ones who buys and resale's dogs. I will take a cull
from the people I know who has good hog dogs than somebody 200
miles away that tell you they are all stars. They might be allstars their
but they better hunt the same way at my place to before I buy them.
Amen" CURLYDOG" I personally have never seen a good dog sold until somebody is getting out of hog doggin' all together.

You mean to tell me that there is more than one dog jockey in all of Texas.  Man, I ain't moving there.  That place sounds corrupt.

Yep! They keep bringing dogs over from Florida and trying to pass them off as hog dogs! Grin

is there anything called ethics or morals anymore!!  i recently sold 5  of my 9 month old pups and thank God my dogs are doing great and doing what they were breed for!  I could not and would not want to face someone after i bald face lied to them.  I take pride in one of the few things we have left....our word!  I take a persons word like true faith.   I dont think you should have to "Hunt" behind the dogs you want to buy....you should be able to call a man, talk to em and take em for their WORD!!!! ANd THEN, when you go hunting, the dogs hold up to the mans word of what the dog is capable and/or trained to do.   ETHICS!!!!!  MORALES!!!!  where is it and where has it gone?

Its always been the same with hunting dogs! I have seen fist fights over bad beagle and coonhound deals, and stories of a shootings over bulldogs and bird dogs as a kid in North Alabama 35 years ago! From what I have seen, if anything , it has gotten better in the hunting dog world.

Dog jockeying and bad dog trades/deals have been around as long as men have been hunting dogs.
I myself have been "taken" on some dogs when I was a teenager and in my early 20's. Been handed culls by a few as if they were doing me a favor!  Raise registered well bred cat pups bought from out of state only to have them grow up looking like a painted husky dog with a curled up hairy tail!

Maybe we need a "lemon law" regarding dogs instead of used cars! lol.

hate to hear that happened to ya, its happened to most of us im sure. (including myself)

that is the reason why i think training your own pups is the way to go, sure it's a pain, but rewarding in the end if they turn out.

I myself dont breed for living, i do it to get good dogs, but the pups i do sell, i do put a garrantee on them. i tell who ever buys a pup from me that if with proper training and by 1yr old if they dont work then i will buy the dog back for 15% over what they paid for the pup. i know it may not make up for what they may hav in the dog with feed, shots/worming and training time but i have faith in my dogs and beleive in my dogs that will produce good pups. of course there are culls in every batch, but even culls can be trained.
