I just got this new dog 2yr old BMC. She was give to me by a good friend that wouldnt waste mine or his time if she was a pot liker. The only reason he didnt keep her is she is gun shy and I dont use a gun so thats fine by me. Ive had her for about a week and she shows no intrest in a hog. Her 6month old pup that I also got for a friend is doing really good. Do you think I should what a little longer to get used to me,my dogs and my place before I cull her? She has the scars. If she was a puppy I would wait but she is 2yr old.

I'd give her a little time. I've seen several real good dogs take a little time to adjust to their new owners and other new dogs.

Today she showed a little more promise when my other dogs went to the woods where my bay pen is and started bayn. She went to them in a hurry which is more than she has showed me so far but ran off when she heard me coming on the wheeler.

I have a two year old cat gyp that i got from a friend. He says she gets out to about 600 yds or so. i showed her a pig just to see and she loves it, but in the woods she acts like she wants to go, but doesn't. I've had her about 3 weeks i'm going to give her a month or two. to her defense we are not all over the pigs. IMO i think it takes a cur dog a while to get warmed up; especially a full Catahoula.

I have another pup Plott/cur cross and he is very shy and dont go to anybody but me.It took a long time for him to warm up to me. I heard a lot of curs are like that but I aint been around them much so I dont know that to be true.

We had a real good dog turn off when we shot over her one night about 4 times.  We were real worried we had done messed her up and were thinking about giving her away.  I got a new catchdog though and we needed to work her though.  We let a pretty good size sow out of the pen and let my bay dogs stop it and bay it.  She could see the hog and still wouldnt go to it.  She would do the same thing, act like she wanted to go, but everytime you got close, I guess she thought we were gunna shoot and she would haul a$$.  When we let the new catchdog go and she heard the pig squeeling and saw all the other dogs on it, it was like a light switch flipped and she was back into it better than ever.  We pulled all the dogs off an let the sow run again and let the dogs stop her and this time the dog that was gun shy and scared to go to a bay was there like she used to be and I think even rougher than before.  Try a simulated hunt like we did.  It really helped.  We thought she was a lost cause.  Those dogs that get shot over like that and get gun shy think everytime someone gets close that they are gunna shoot so they start looking for a way out.  I feel your frustration man, but dont give up.  If she has scars and wants to go to the bay, I think that squeel of a pig and dogs going craxy will be enough to turn her around.  Hope this helps.

Try a bay pen. Maybe she will feel safer and go to bay. Just try to think like a dog. She went to bay and there a very loud bang that scares the poop out of you. Would you want to go to another bay? What would make you go to bay? Maybe tie her outside a bay pen if she tries to run. So she can see there is no bang. It will take thinking and patience. But just remember there is a very good reason for her not want to go to bay. I have seen many bird dogs ruined by shooting over them. Some dogs have to be eased into the noise. So I ease all my bird dogs so I don't ruin one. Some will come back and some won't. But you stand a better chance because you are not trying to get her not gun shy.
