Woke up early again this morning, and picked up my Daddy and my nephew, Jaden. We saddled Lightning, Sunshine, and Fireball and headed toward the same place I caught the last boar. We turned the dogs loose at about 5:30 a.m. We hunted down the Leon River and crossed the river on horseback, and headed back down the other side of the Leon. We were hunting Tom, my ol BMC, Mercedes, Deuce the catch dog and a 9-month old BMC pup named Frank. This was Frank's first time in the woods. He has only seen 2 hogs in his life in a pen. Throughout the hunt he stayed pretty close to Tom and Mer which really impressed me. I noticed that the dogs were winding and took off pretty hard, and about that time I told Jaden that they might be on something and he said " yeah, I smell a boar." It wasn't two minutes later until all three, including Frank, were bayed solid across the river. Jaden and I jumped off our horses and tied them as fast as we could. We were right behind Deuce headed to the bay. Bout the time I got within site of the hog the hog broke and ran. I guess he heard Deuce coming. So all 4 dogs including Deuce took off after the hog and I was trailing behind trying to keep up. I finally caught Deuce in the river bed and put him on a lead. Jaden went back toward Dad and where the horses were tied to bring the horses to me. I looked at my Garmin and the dogs were about 300 yds. down the river and I started walking toward them and all of a sudden all 3 bayed. They had stopped him again! Deuce and I took off in a sprint and about 50 yds. from the bay I unleashed hell and the fight was on. Once I got there, all the dogs were caught except Frank and he was baying his head off. So I grabbed both back legs and tried to pick his rear end up but it barely budged! I picked up as high as I could and put my shoulder to his hip and finally flopped him over to his side. I forgot my hog hobbles and proceeded to tie him with tie ropes. This hog was so big and stout that I wasn't having much progress. Daddy called me on my cell and I answered it and told him to get here ASAP. 10 minutes later he arrived and helped me get the hog tied. Frank stayed with the dogs all morning long and bayed both times with the others. I sure am proud of him, he has a bright future. And ol Deuce, like always, sealed the deal. CAUGHT and TIED 300LB. Boar with 3.5 in. cutter. Sure was nice to have help this time. Thanks Daddy and Jaden!

Great Hog! Those dogs must be professionals. I sure do like a hunter that doesn't use guns. Nice Job!

Good job man,.....sounds like Frank may have a future as a hog dog to me. That was no doubt an exciting hunt and a good outcome to it all too. Thanks for sharing it with us. Where in TX is the Leon River.....been hunting in north TX a few times but I don't remember having seen it.

I bet that 10 minutes you spent waiting on your dad seemed more like 10 hours!

Cant wait to check out the pictures when I get home.

Tom is 9 he is foundation bred ybmc he is out of Jim Carleton's stock from Colmesneil, Texas. I've been hunting him for about 6 years and he seems to always find the big 'uns.  The Leon starts in Eastland county and runs through Comanche, Hamilton, Coryell and Bell Counties where it spills into the Little River.

That's why I haven't seen the Leon before, you're in that part of TX that I've never been. You're lucky that y'all can hunt on horseback, wish we could here I'd sure enjoy it. Good hog you got there, good luck next time out.
