Picked up a golf course this morning. They had pigs come in over the weekend and do some damage. Went out there this morning and sure enough.......rooting in a few places. They shot one last night with a .22 mag. Never found the pig. They saw two. I have a grown dog that is a VERy short range dog but she will take a very freash track so I was going to bring her and a pup plus my dogo. I dont expect much due to the fact that they just moved in the area but my dogs need some work. I think they want me to keep them on a lead until we see them, but I was thinking of letting the short range dog go and letting the pup run with her if possible. The damage looks like it was made atleast with a small group. They hit the course last sat. night and again last night. Memebers are calling like crazy so they want them gone. The sad part is that we have to wait till 9 to get on the place. All I can think is start up front and head up wind.......what do yall think?

Go to http://www.terraserver.com/view.asp?tid=141 and look the course up.  You should be able to tell from the aerial photos where they're coming from and see if you can get to them there.   Even if you happen to get on them on the course, that's where they'll head... so go ahead and make sure you can access it.

Sounds like fun Mike.  Do you know of anyone with a RCD?  This would seem like an ideal situation for one.

Maybe the course would let you put out some black gold in an area to try to concentrate them and start by turning the dogs loose just down wind from there.  Huh?

He's out.  And you're out.  And i don't think I'm in either.

I've hunted several golf courses. Most of them own the woods around them, but the ones that don't can usually convince the surrounding landowner's to let you on their properties. They also allow us the drive trucks/atvs on their cart paths or let you use their golf carts. It depends on the size of the course, you can walk it or if it's a large one, drive it and road the dogs in front of you.

Try the short range dogs first and catch them on or near the course.

If that doesn't work, and the land is available, go in at daylight with a longer range dog that will track to them. They could be traveling a pretty good distance every night to hit the course. Good luck!
